Merry Cemetery in Săpânța

The painted-cross collection by Stan Ioan Pătraș and his apprentices. UNESCO heritage, but more than that a place with a personality of its own. Easy to combine with a stop at the nearby monastery.
Bârsana Monastery
25 km
A modern monastic complex built in traditional Maramureș style. The tall wooden church, the gardens and the atmosphere make it one of the most-visited monasteries in Maramureș.
Mocănița on the Vaser Valley (Vișeu de Sus)
60 km
A nearly century-old steam train on a narrow-gauge line that climbs through the forests of the Maramureș Mountains. Half-day excursions with stops for an outdoor meal.
UNESCO wooden churches (Ieud, Poienile Izei, Botiza)
35–45 km
Eight wooden churches in Maramureș are on the UNESCO list. The one at Ieud Deal is the best known, but each has its own character. We can combine 2-3 in a day.
Horses' Waterfall (Borșa)
70 km
A waterfall nearly 90 metres tall, reachable by chairlift from Borșa. Short hike from the top, dramatic mountain scenery. Recommended for the snow-free months.
